11 Oct Intro: On the way to Video Game Sound Design
Hi! My name is Alex Granados (yes, the one freezing on the picture) and this is my blog. I just started it so I could keep a track of my progress in Video Game Sound Design starting from the scratch, and, hopefully be useful to some other folk that want to get into it as well.
So just a bit about me: I studied Psychology for 4 years at the University of Abertay, Scotland. This university is quite famous for video game creation; from titles like Grand Theft Auto to Lemmings. At the same time, I spent one year in Montreal (thus the post picture), which made me meet some people in the video game industry. This way, I got to learn about the possibility of making Video Game Sound Design my career. This got me excited because it was the perfect way of mixing my passion for music, sound and video games.
At this moment I’m a Digital Marketer and a Webdesigner. I spend my days in an office, creating content for a packaging company and building some websites (like this one!). However, I’m hoping to transition to Sound Design in a few years.
In September 2019 I started an Audio Production course in a renowned school in Spain. But after the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I quit because I was fed up with the high expenses and how incredibly disorganised this school was. I wanted to do it at my own pace.
Right now, I have no clue about video game audio. At all. I know the basics of recording and mixing and I know my way on Pro Tools, but that’s all of it. So this is going to be interesting.
I invite you to follow my story. I love to keep conversations with people and I know I can always learn something. So, if you think you’ve got anything to add, don’t hesitate to comment or send me an email!
See you around… hopefully!
